Ah, summer. For some, this means ice cream, lake days, warm nights, but for those of us in the industry, summer means internships! If you’ve taken a look at our social media recently, you would’ve seen that Voltage has been lucky enough to have two this year and we couldn’t be happier about having both of them on our team. Katherine Johnson is our resident wiz-kid Digital Marketing Intern and Adam Freese is our exceptionally talented Graphic Design Intern (some of their work has already generated results for clients and our own brand)! Their time here has been filled with learning opportunities, for both them AND our seasoned staff of marketers. We love being able to share our collective expertise. 

Without further adieu, we present the Get To Know You Questions — Intern Edition.

 

Katherine

What have you enjoyed the most about your internship here at Voltage?

I’ve really enjoyed my internship at Voltage because I’m in a unique position that allows me to learn about so many different areas of digital marketing. I’ve loved getting to be a sponge and soak up as much knowledge and experience as I can this summer. And of course, getting to know everyone in the office and participating in all the first floor antics has been a highlight as well.  

 

You’re finally making the move to KC! What are you looking forward to about living in the city?

I’m excited to explore a new place! It’ll be fun to find my new favorite restaurant, coffee shop, and running route. I’m also looking forward to catching some more Zs with only a 10-minute commute.  

 

In your own personal opinion, which is the worst song we play on the Sonos?

The 5,000 renditions of Red Red Wine. 

 

A genie grants you three wishes — what are you wishing for? 

More sleep, the ability to teleport anywhere in the world, and endless chocolate ice cream 

 

What aspect of digital marketing is your preferred channel? 

I’ve had the most exposure to SEO and probably enjoy it the most since there’s so much to learn about it. I can’t really get over the fact that it’s Google’s world and we’re all just living in it. 

 

Adam

As a graphic designer, what is your least favorite font to use, and why?

I think a lot of designers would say Comic Sans or Papyrus, but I have to say I have a very special distaste for Chalkduster. It doesn’t even look like chalk. 0/10.

 

If you had to choose, would you rather spend 30 minutes free-floating in space or get to go on an entire month-long trip to Europe for free?

Free-floating would be cool, but there’s no Mediterranean food in space. And a free month of vacation tops 30 minutes almost anywhere. I’d have to go with Europe. 

 

What would your ‘Death Row Meal’ consist of? 

Without a doubt, a Joe’s Z-Man with extra sauce and the key to my cell hidden under the bun when no one’s looking.

 

What got you interested in graphic design?

My dad was a designer, and his dad was a carpenter, so I grew up around people who were always creating, and I really picked that up. I’ve always been making things, whether it was drawing or videos or whatever else, and ended up pursuing design because it really allows you to do a lot of different kinds of making. 

 

What is your best strength as far as graphic design is concerned?

Probably my knowledge of keyboard shortcuts. Knowing those can be the difference between a project taking 15 minutes and  2 hours.

 

As you can probably tell, we’ve definitely picked up a couple of winners when it comes to these two. Our team looks forward to watching them continue on their career paths and grow in their chosen channels of digital marketing!
